Scouting Notes:

2013 Tournament of Stars notes from Don Olsen:

Cody has the ideal frame, good proportional development. He offers a little bit of projection in the Jim Deshaies mold.  He throws from a ¾ slot with okay arm speed that shows natural tail on the arsenal.  Fastball was 88-90 (91) mph and has the ability to work both sides, willing to pound in on all hitters.  There is a bit of hop in the offering, as he hides the ball and makes it tough to pick up out of the hand.  The curve was 72-75 mph, showing more of slurve feel from his slot.  The offering has spin with depth; it should round out into a useable offering, maybe above average.  The change was 81-82 mph, showed a bit of deception, nice fade with enough two way action that it could provide a bit of swing/miss. Minor ironing in repeating his release as he pushes the ball hand side a bit too much.  He is an interesting under the radar arm that looks more of the BOR mold, high follow into next spring.

Quotes

Ardmore coach Andrew Smith ” There are a lot of great players in 4A, but he was, all-around, the best I’ve ever seen.  His work ethic is what makes him so good. He works harder than anybody, year-round. You put that with his natural work ethic, and it makes it hard to stop.” – See more at: http://enewscourier.com/archivesearch/x331660993/Ardmore-s-Reed-named-News-Courier-Baseball-Player-of-the-Year#sthash.4lx57w9Y.dpuf
