Cathedral Catholic Reportedly Dismisses Players

by Staff | Posted on Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

A comment on the site brought to our attention that Cathedral Catholic has dismissed ten players from their baseball team.  We are currently working to confirm this rumor.

We have been able to confirm that a number of players have been suspended indefinitely from the team, but do not have verification on the exact number at this time.  Prominent members of the team are believed to be among the players involved.

More information on the situation will be posted as it becomes available.

That’s gonna shake up a few mock drafts. And draft boards.

    those crazy Catholics….

  3. Tom says:

    Gonsalves involved?

  4. NPAC says:

Said before I won’t publish names but you can look at Maxpreps and see who didn’t play in their last game and figure it out yourself. All their pitchers are 2-way players who hit every game if not pitching.

  5. Greg says:

As far a I know, suspensions involve (deleted)

  6. Tom says:

What does this suspension do to Gonsalves’ draft stock?

  7. Tom says:

Obviously it will hurt his stock if the kid gets suspended for drugs or alcohol

The makeup of a player with high draft expectations is going to be looked at very closely by any team that considers taking him. You don’t take a high school player, hand him alot of money, and move him away from home for the first time without being comfortable that he will be able to handle the situation. Dismissal or no, teams are going to look as hard at these players, as possible.

  9. Matt Grabusky says:

I only know about this one particular situation, and I would be extremely hesitant to use one day of a kid’s life to define him. Almost every high school kid makes a mistake. These kids got caught and attend a school that didn’t look the other way. Major League Teams will find out if it is a one time deal or an actual issue.

Don’t expect to see (deleted) selected in the first 3 rounds this June..

It is highly unfair to mention kids’ names when speculating. Once you put a name out there, especially on the internet, regardless if that person is involved or not, it stays there. Please be careful with what you say, you may be inadvertely accusing someone of something they didn’t do!

  12. Linda Aiken says:

For all of you that no nothing about what happened, you should not be speculating or spreading rumors. I am Brady’s mother and he was not involved and has not been suspended. Obviously, you do not know my son, his character or the individual he is. It’s disgusting that you all think you know everything. This is my son’s reputation and character you are spreading rumors about, get your facts straight or don’t say anything at all. Jealousy is an ugly thing!

Mrs Aiken, I apologize for the firection that these comments took. We are cleaning them up at the moment.

As far as what this type of situation would do to a player’s draft stock, here are the takes of some scouts I contacted-

“Some teams have their own internal policies and if this player is a high round pick it will almost certainly cost him $$$$$$$. It’s up to the teams.

“Different teams will have different reactions. A top kid will be well know to scouts and they have to decide who he is and what risk is involved.”

“It is too early to say.”
