Prep Notes; Frazier, Jones, & More
With the seasons of many top high school players underway, BLF will begin posting updates on as many of those players as possible. With that in mind, here are just a few quick notes.
Loganville outfielder Clint Frazier got off to a quick start with three home runs in his first two games. TTFB’s Dan Kirby tweeted links to videos of each, here is one of those.
According to a tweet from Velo City’s Jamie Evans, righthander Connor Jones hit 97 at a workout two weeks ago. Jones was already one of the more interesting, and underappreciated prospects for the 2013 draft. Adding velocity makes him even more interesting.
Pearland righthander Blake Goins is a high school pitcher who seems to be living under the radar. I hear that he is sitting in the low 90′s and touching 95 to go along with excellent control and strong offspeed stuff.
BLF’s Kevin Gallo was at the Aliso Niguel-Serra game yesterday. Kyle Molnar, one of the top pitchers in the 2015 class, started the game for Aliso Niguel. According to Kevin, Molnar hit 92 and his curve looked good with a hard sharp break.
If you have information on any players that you would like to see posted at BLF, feel free to pass it along.

Underappreciated is the tip of the iceberg for Conner.
Honestly I think it has more to do with the fact that people with his connections to Virginia and his particularly strong commitment feel like he’s not going to sign anyways.
You never know really until draft day.
I keep seeing Jones dinged for his delivery, which is the UVA delivery (apparently a conincidence that he sports those mechanics and is a UVA commit) and which seems to have worked pretty well for Danny Hultzen. Jones was one of my absolute favorites at Under Armour, with three pitches and great feel/sequencing. UVA commits are starting to rival Stanford and Vandy for solidity, so I understand if orgs are wary.
It’s hard to miss a right handed Danny Hultzen throwing. But the point is that with the delivery already in place in HS people feel like he’s very commited to their ways and such.Hopefully that’s just early speculation because I’d love to get him in the supp 1st or 2nd round or something if he was to last that long(right now seems very possible).
Your right about the UVA and Stanford Vandy thing. The program has really built something solid over there and for College Baseball purposes you got to love the fact that there bringing in there top talent.Obviously if your strictly a Draft guy and don’t really care for college your not particularly happy about all these talents going the other route.
I am as guilty of it as anyone else, as I haven’t put up much on Jones since Under Armour, but he hasn’t gotten the credit he deserves. I was really impressed by him at UA, as well, but then he just kind of drifted into the background.
If I can’t get out to a game, I am likely to be watching a college game on TV, so I don’t mind kids going to college, at all.
I won’t say I love them going to College. But I do love College Baseball and would love to see it grow. The way to do that is to have colleges actually get their top commits. Can you Imagine how good SD would be if Kris Bryant stayed and Dylan Covey and then Reese McGuire Stephen Gonsalves and Ian Clarkin showed up.That’d be a powerhouse I feel like.Or if USC got Dom Smith and JP Crawford.
The point I’m trying to make is from a College standpoint a school who can get guys to strongly commit and stick to it like that is a good thing.
I also feel like some kids really need college before they go pro they need extra amateur time.Jesse Roth comes to mind I remember thinking if he went to college he’d probablly be a top pick when he came back out.
I have been able to see Goins pitch, this is a video that I shot from last summer.. My plans are to be able to see him at some point this spring.

I talked to someone this week that talked Goins up quite a bit, I would love to hear more about him.
Thanks for posting this!
I’ve charted Goins multiple times for the team I work for. He has a good slider but gets a little fastball happy sometimes. The district he plays in is a little weak but he looks strong. I’d like to see him get behind and see him work through it even if he loses. The last two games that I’ve seen of him, he’s given up just 2 runs in 13 inning with 20K’s…
Jason, thanks for the update, love hearing how kids are doing.
