USC baseball head coach Frank Cruz has been terminated for knowingly violating NCAA Countable Athletically-Related Activities limitations.
Pre-season #1 North Carolina freshman OF Skye Bolt’s thoughts (FB) before his first college game:
“Yesterday was my mother Anne’s birthday who is no longer with us as of a year ago. Tomorrow is my first of many Collegiate games. I want to thank God, my parents, coaches, and team mates that have propelled me to this stage and of course my Mommy Anne who will be watching over me along with my family as we take the field Friday night. Thank you for the person you have molded me to be and I love you. God, family, parents, coaches, teammates, and you Mommy Anne
(Bolt had two of the four hits North Carolina had in their 1-0 opening day victory over Seton Hall)
D2 Highlights –
Valdosta State junior LHP Nick Fogarty – 6.0-IP, 12-K… Texas A&M Kingsville junior RHP Dallas Ponder – 6.0-IP, 2-H, 1-R, 7-K… Eckerd junior 1B Chris Hanson weekend stats – .750, 1-HR, 3-doubles, 5-RBI, 3-R… season OPS: 2.300… Eastern New Mexico junior IF Colton Sims – .889, 5-R, 5-RBI, HR.
This hasn’t been a great first outing for #9 NC State pitching prospect Carlos Rodon. Rodon gave up only two home runs all of last year, but yielded three alone in the six innings he pitched against unranked Appalachian State. Rodon’s stat line: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 8 K, 3-HR, 1 BB. It was the first time in his career that he’s left with a deficit.
You have to be impressed with #2 North Carolina’s (1-0-0) 1-0 victory over unranked Seton Hall. Starter LHP Kent Emanuel‘s threw a complete game which is rare on opening day. Stat line: 9.0IP, 4H (all singles), 5SO, 0BB, 106 Pitches.

Skye Bolt starting off the right way.Much success to him down the road.
GO UNC!!!
Kohl sat out the UA football all american game.Because of this situation.Supposedly it’s non-serious but I guess to a degree everything needs to be kept an eye on.
thanks Kevin. I knew Stewart didn’t play in UA’s football game, but I didn’t know it was injury related.
The thing I find interesting is he won’t risk his baseball season to play at the UA Football game.
I wrote a pretty long comment awhile back on this subject.I personally have a pretty good feeling about Kohl going the Baseball route.
Everything just falls in place with it making sense from a 3rd party view. We’ll see how he feels I guess when the time comes but I’m not concerned in the least bit with his signability or whatever.
I have no inside knowledge of Kohl’s thinking, but I would be surprised if he ended uo at Texas A&M. Between his ability on the mound, the money he is in line for, and Johnny Football at A&M, everything seems lined up for him to be a pro this summer.
