Scouting Report: JP Crawford
Players Name: John Paul Crawford
Hometown: Lakewood, Ca
Bats/ Throws: L/R
Body: Long lanky frame with slightly sloped shoulder. What looks like a strong midsection and long legs and arms. He has room to build muscle and his frame has not fully matured.
Swing: Crawford starts with an open stance and high hands. His load a straight back loads and keeps his hand up. His leg kick is low and very quiet and he keeps is weight back during his stride. The swing is direct to the ball at a downward angle which should generate good backspin on the ball. He has a two handed finish that ends at the middle of this back. Crawford generates above average bat speed, this along with his ability to create backspin on the ball should turn into above average to plus power.
Base running: Crawford runs a 6.77 in the 60 which is above average speed. He shows good base stealing instincts and good base running over instincts. Show he can get good jumps and good reads off the pitcher.
Defense: Crawford shows versatility in the field because of his range and speed. He easily can stay at SS with is range and is seems very comfortable around the bag. His soft hands and quick release makes double plays look easy. His plus arm makes him able to make plays deep in the whole looks effortless. He could move to CF and Handle it without too much of a problem and they would be scared to run on his plus arm.
Summary: Crawford tools should translate into 5 above average tools. His power is behind the rest of his tools but the power should come. When his power comes and if he can keep his frame from getting too bulky, he could continue to progress into a pure 5 tool player and something very special.
