Pitcher name: Brett Morales
High School Senior at King HS in Tampa, FL
Physical: His strong, board frame shows signs of an inning eater in the future. Morales’ lower half looks to still have some maturing to do, but nothing time in the weight room or years won’t fix. Once his body fully matures and he gets on a professional workout program I would see him adding 35 to 40lbs and not looking any athleticism.
Mechanics: Morales motion is free and easy doesn’t overthrow any of his pitches. He throws from a true ¾ arm slot and hasn’t started using his lower body to his full potential. Morales show very good arm speed and a nice clean arm action.
Fastball: Morales’ fastball hits in between sits between 91 and 93 and touches 94. Show a great tail and sinking action on his fastball. Has he matures and tweaks his mechanics I could see him add as much as 4 to 5 mph to his Fastball.
Secondary Pitches: His secondary pitches are surprisingly excellent given he has only been pitching for very long. His Curveball has a 12 to 6 break and sits in the low to mid 70s with a sharp break. His command on the pitch needs work but it will come. His CB has the ability to be a plus pitch or even a plus plus pitch.
His Changeup is possible equal to his CB and movement on his circle change is impressive. He shows in different in arm speed between his changeup and fastball. It sits between 78 to 81 mph and has sinking and tailing on the changeup. His changeup could be at least being an above average pitch but has the potential to be a plus pitch.
Summary: Morales has great potential and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being one of the best arms out of this draft. If he fulfills his potential he is top of the rotation pitcher. If not he is a #3 inning eater or closer. I am very high on this kid’s potential and am a very big believer in his tools.
